Lunch for Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Today's lunch is made using macaroni salad I threw together last night using elbow noodles, light miracle whip, greek seasoning, onion and bell pepper.  I thought it all looked kind of green so I added some green grapes and broccoli frogs to my bento.  The eyes and mouth are made with provolone cheese and sugar sheet punched.  YES! I finally got some face punches.    This will also be posted on What's for Lunch Wednesday.  Look for the link on the side.

  5. I found your blog via What's for Lunch at BentoLunch.net. I just made the decision to start serving Bento lunches to my daughter and I have lots to learn. I'll be visiting lots of blogs! I have so much to learn. What is a sugar sheet and face punches?

  7. Thanks everyone for the froggy love.  Yes bear shapes can be frogs. lol

Diana – Sugar sheets are a new product by Wilton that I found at Michaels Craft store.  They are intended for fondant.  I have tried them on various foods but they do tend to melt the wetter the food is.  I am not 100% happy with them but since they are not cheap I will continue to use it until its gone.

The punches are like craft punches but with face shapes.  I purchased my from Ohayo Bento (yes Heather you are welcome for the free plug).  It just helps you make better facial features.

There are lots of products out there to buy and it can sometimes seem overwhelming.  You might want to look through several blogs and see what style you like then read or ask what tools were used.  It might help you from wasting money on items you might think you need but won’t use.  I have some of those myself.

I have found that the bento community is very friendly and welcoming.  So feel free to ask questions of anyone and good luck with your bento’s for your daughter.

BTW - I love your blog designs, very cute!
